Just so everyone knows, baby Thor is running a fever of 104 deg. We brought him to the vet today and were told. On Thursday night he also made a jump from the bed to the dresser and we were shocked by his ambition. But then all day on Friday he was sleeping and not moving much. He's also favoring his right leg and when the vet touched his knee poor Thor screamed. The vet thinks he just pulled or sprained it with that jump. Apollo is doing alright except for his one eye has a little discharge, so we are keeping them isolated in a room away from the other cats till the symptoms play out. There is nothing sadder than to hold a kitten and feel it tremble with chills from a fever. Thor also isn't grooming and his fur looks matted.
In the mean time, we are letting him rest and feeding him (we've seen him eat some can food earlier today) and also giving him water via a syringe so he won't get too dehydrated. He feels warm and pretty much wants to sleep and I'm wondering if it's the combo of the hurt leg with the transition of a new environment that brought this on. The thing is, those animal shelters all have their animals together and I did see one kitty there sniffling with runny eyes so it is very easy for all of them to develop an upper respiratory infection.
As of yet, neither has congestion or runny nose--each has one runny eye and Thor has a fever. We also have some antibiotics in case the infection may not be viral and are also giving him that via a syringe. Hopefully the babies will be ok. It's unfortunate when you adopt new animals--it's not really all fun and games but getting them acclimated and healthy before they can be fully "free" to roam the house with the other cats. So as you can probably guess, Oscar is thrilled they are out of sight.
But I'll keep you updated on baby Thor's condition...
